On March 6, 2006 while sitting in my office at Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly I had a dream to plant a fresh new church that specifically connected with people who were far from God. Being a youth pastor for the last 8 years and having preached to adults only a handful of times, I approached the leadership of the church with this audacious dream to get their blessing. After talking through what this could look like, the board of APA agreed that this was a God-dream and encouraged myself and my wife Bekah to approach 8-12 people to come with us to start what would be known as The CrossCurrent.
The name The CrossCurrent was chosen to communicate the place where we feel life is meant to be lived. It’s the place where faith and real life collide; being in the world but not of it. It’s not a building but a movement that is often turbulent. There is huge tension when you are in a cross current and that’s exactly what we are diving into.
And so the story began. In May of 2006, a total of 12 people started meeting in APA’s nursery to strategize and dream what this new church could look like. After securing SilverCity-Mission as our meeting location, sneak preview gatherings were planned for the months of Sept, Oct, Nov, and December of 2006. We saw a consistent number of people show up to these gatherings and the dream of The CrossCurrent(TXC) was becoming a reality.
On January 14, 2007, the public launch of TXC was underway. With only 4 gatherings of experience behind us, this little tribe of people boldly moved forward. We’ve outgrown the first 2 theatres that we started to meet in and are now in theatre #2 which has 300 seats. We remember sitting on the stage of this theatre thinking “How on earth are we going to fill this?!” Now we are having to seriously consider adding another gathering on Sunday mornings in the upcoming future.
As of now we have seen lives transformed right in front of our eyes. From those who thought they didn’t need God to the many who have rededicated their lives to Jesus, we have continued to be amazed by what God has chosen to do through us. We don’t have all the answers by any means but we’ve caught a glimpse of what life could be like if we decided to fully give our lives to following Jesus with every part of who we are and go wherever he leads us, no matter what the outcome.
Welcome to The CrossCurrent…where life is meant to be lived.
Are you in?
