The Backstory
I was born in the booming town of Port Hardy, B.C. and was raised in a Christian home. At the age of 18 I made the choice to walk away from Jesus and got involved in the world of drugs and alcohol. After a short stint there, God kind of slapped me upside the head and I started my journey of ministry in Campbell River. That is where I met the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen and not too long after that we got married. We left C.R. and headed off to Abbotsford for Bible College. Two years in, Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly hired me as the youth pastor while I finished my schooling. In March of 2006, I got a dream to start a church in a theatre and that is where we find ourselves now, living out the dream. I live in Mission with my beautiful wife Bekah and my amazing kids Riley and Emma. When not eating, sleeping, reading, drinking coffee or snowboarding, you will find me cruising around in my sweet action mini-van with the family.
What is your role at TXC?
I give oversight to the overall direction, leadership development and teaching of TXC.
What is one of your biggest pet peeves?
Bad Drivers! If you can’t drive, don’t! As well, people who call themselves Christians but clearly aren’t.
If Hollywood made a movie of your life, who would most effectively star you?
The lead character in the show “House”. I think he could really pull off my angry look. He’s got some edge to him and doesn’t have a lot of patience for nonsense. Is that a good thing?
Sweets or Salties?
That question is way to narrow for me. I like all food. Next to sleep, eating is by far my favorite past time.
What is one dream you have for the future?
That our church wouldn’t be just a group of people that meets on Sundays, but that we would be known by our love for the people we interact with every day. If we were to have to pick up and leave in 10 years, I want our city to notice our absence. On a side note, a dream of mine since I was 15 was a six pack of abs.
If there is one thing you could be remembered by at the end of your life, what would it be?
The most important thing in my life that I want to be remembered by is that my wife and kids could say that I loved them with everything in me and I always put them before everything else in my life. As well, I’d like to be known for the first person ever to make owning a mini-van cool!
