Everything that he had learned in the past 30 years of his life was now in full gear and he would go on to perform many miracles and fulfill multiple prophesies that were prophesied hundreds of years earlier regarding the coming Messiah. He kept claiming that he was God and the religious leaders of the day thought that he was a complete heretic. The problem was that he kept doing things that they couldn’t refute. So what do they do instead?
Murder him.
But what they didn’t realize is that this was God’s plan all along. The shedding of the blood of Jesus was the final blood that would have to be shed in order for our sin to be forgiven. He was the One True Lamb. As Jesus breathed his last breath, the sky grew dark and there was a huge earthquake that split the veil in the temple in two. This symbolized the fact that no longer was God separate from His people. Jesus had just made a way for all of humanity to have an uninhibited relationship with God.
3 days later, the Holy Spirit breathed life into his lifeless body and he rose from the dead. There had been many people that had claimed to be the Messiah, but none of them had been raised from the dead like this. This proved to his followers that he was actually who he claimed to be.
So what does this mean for us? It means that the feeling you have that there must be more to life than just being born and then dying 80 years later is legit. It means that your search for a greater meaning is there for a reason. It means that the emptiness inside of you is actually a disconnection from the God of the Bible and the answer lies in Jesus. He’s the missing link between our meaningless wandering and a life lived that is fuller than we could ever imagine, now and forever! (John 10:10)
The beautiful thing about Jesus is that you don’t have to clean yourself up before you come. You don’t have jump through hoops just to get you to the place where he’ll consider you. He’ll take you just as you are, baggage and all. You seriously can’t get screwed up enough for Jesus to not take you back. He put His life on the line for you and all he wants you to do is receive the love that he wants to give you. All that junk you’ve done in your life, forgotten. (Hebrews 8:12)
As followers of Jesus, we participate in what is called communion. Right now communion is every 2 weeks and this is where as a faith community, we join together in eating bread and eating juice that represents the Body and Blood of Jesus. These elements are symbols of the body and blood of Jesus, but in taking them we join him in his death and resurrections as we again come to the cross and surrender ourselves to Him. (1 Corinthians 11:23-30)
To get the journey started, all it takes is for you to honestly do 2 things according to (Romans 10:9):
1. Confess with your mouth.
This means that out of your lips, you are willing to confess that you are a sinner and have worshiped yourself instead of Him. Your confession means that you are now going to submit to him as Lord/Boss of your life.
2. Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Believing that Jesus is who he said he was will result in a life that starts to change and morph into who He dreams for you to be. It’s easy to say that you follow Jesus, but now it’s time to back it up with how you live your life through continual submission to Him and His will for your life.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. We don’t promise to have all the answers but we would love to enter into the journey with you.
